The AIR Office regularly administers two types of course evaluations, Midterm Evaluations and End-of-Semester Evaluations.

Midterm evaluations are distributed about five weeks after the semester begins. It is distributed to all new or recent lecturers and to any full-time faculty who requests it. (However it may be waived by lecturers if waiver requests are made by the principal faculty for the discipline.) It is collected 10 days after being distributed and processed in two-weeks. From the time it is distributed to the time faculty get it back is about three weeks. So faculty should have the results  back by the eighth week of the semester.  The primary purpose of the Midterm evaluations are for feedback to the instructor. However it is sometimes used by Division chairs (and/or the Chancellor) and full-time faculty within a discipline to see how a specific lecturer is doing.    Therefore copies of the  Midterm evaluations are given back to the instructors and to the division chairs. One printed copy and one computer file is kept by the Assessment Office.  The Assessment Office keeps the printed copy on file for two-years, then it is discarded; the computer file is kept indefinitely.

End-of-Semester Evaluations are distributed to all courses about two weeks before the end of the semester. All of the evaluations are collected by one week after the semester ends.  The results are distributed back to instructors four weeks after all evaluations have been collected. The purposes of End-of-Semester evaluations are for feedback on courses and for a record of teaching performance. To that end, it is used in contract renewal, tenure and promotion, and other personnel matters which require a summative evaluation.

The records for the End-of-Semester evaluations are compiled every year into Cumulative Evaluations for faculty who want summarized records dating back to Summer 1991.

In Spring 2001, an Online End-of-Semester evaluation forms was developed. This form is accessible through the web and is used by students taking online courses.
